Stuck in an infinite loop

diaries of a game programmer

It has been long, but at the same time, I didn't miss anyone. In fact, there's nobody (yet) following this blog.

So, how have you been ? Do you still have a job ?

I am going to talk about lay offs. Every year, it's the same story. History repeats itself and it's a fact, and it seems that in the game industry, between July and December, there's kind of death march.

So, lets recapitulate:

Firaxis - July 8th, 2010 - 20 layoffs
RockStar San Diego - July 15th, 2010 - approximately 40 workers
Ready At Dawn - July 15th, 2010 - 13 layoffs
Sony Online Enterainment - July 15th, 2010 - 35 layoffs
High Voltage - August 5th, 2010 - 30 layoffs
Realtime Worlds - August 13th, 2010 - 60 layoffs
Red Storm (Ubisoft) - August 27th, 2010 - 38 layoffs
Lucas Arts - September 2nd, 2010 - unspecified
Stardock - September 6th, 2010 - unspecifed
Raven Software - October 11th, 2010 - 40 layoffs
Robomodo - October 12th, 2010 - significant number of staff - 30-60
Propaganda Games - Obtober 15th, 2010 - around 100 people
EA Canada - October 27th, 2010 - 100 or more
IO Interactive - November 1st, 2010 - 35 people
Namco Bandai - November 2nd, 2010 - 90 staff
Monumental Games - November 10th, 2010 - unspecified
Lucas Arts - November 17th, 2010 - 15 workers

Bah, I surely miss some but you get the idea.

Thinking about it, that's a lot of people on the market.
